A Nairobi man, Titus Ndocha Nyakundi, has been charged with obtaining more than Sh10 million from a woman under pretenses in a purported green tea business deal.
Nyakundi Ndocha Titus appeared before Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Dolphina Alego, where he denied several charges, including obtaining money by pretense, acquisition of proceeds of crime, possession of proceeds of crime, and use of proceeds of crime.
The prosecution alleges that between September 1, 2022, and October 31, 2024, Nyakundi defrauded Anastacia Wanja Thinguri of Sh10,297,469 by falsely claiming he would purchase green tea for her.
He is further accused of acquiring the said funds through his mobile phone number registered in his name, while knowing or having reason to believe that the money was the proceeds of a crime.
The court heard that Nyakundi allegedly transacted the funds despite being aware that they were illicitly obtained.
He was released on a bond of Sh5 million or an alternative cash bail of Sh3 million. The case will be mentioned on September 29 for pre-trial.
The court further ordered Nyakundi to deposit his passport.
