Kelvin Kiptum's house

Kelvin Kiptum’s house

A new house being put up for World Marathon record holder Kelvin Kiptum is almost complete ahead of his burial on Friday. President William Ruto ordered the construction of the house at Kiptum’s farm, located at Naiberi in Uasin Gishu County.

Engineers and workers have camped at the site to complete the new home before Thursday, when the body will be removed from the Eldoret Hospital morgue. “We are on schedule and will complete the house by Thursday,”  said one of the engineers at the site.

At the same time, a team of homicide officers from DCI HQ arrived in Eldoret to step up the probe into the accident that caused the death of World Marathon record holder Kelvin Kiptum.

The team is visiting all the areas where Kiptum was last seen before the accident that claimed his life and that of his coach.

None of the officers in the homicide team could comment on the probe, but Elgeyo Marakwet County police commander Peter Mulinge said the investigations were going on well.

“We are going on with the investigations as required,”  said Mulinge.

This comes amid continuing speculation on the circumstances surrounding the accident.

Sources in the investigation team said they are reconstructing Kiptum’s last movements before the accident.

Kiptum and some friends are said to have visited several entertainment spots in Eldoret town just before the accident.

The homicide officers were also expected to visit the scene of the accident near Flax on Eldoret-Ravine Road.

They will also inspect the accident car, which was towed to the Kaptagat police station.

Later, the officers will also interrogate witnesses induction Sharon Kosgey who was the lone survivor of the accident.

President William Ruto is said to have demanded a full report on the accident that caused Police IG Japheth Koome to dispatch the homicide team.

Power Dynamos have beaten UNESCO FC 2-0 in a derby-like tough match on their home ground at Nkondi.

On the 24th of September 2023, UNESCO FC visited Power Dynamos on an away match after dominating several wins in the ward.

The game was hard and tough and barely a draw would have won the first half of the game before Carlos, the Power Dynamos striker, registered his name on the scoresheet hence giving The Dynamos a lead in the last minutes before the referee blew halftime whistle.

On the second half, UNESCO FC made several substitutes to counter their midfield which had weakened. The Dynamos’ winger, Moses Murithi, put in a cross outside the box hence Carlos converting a brace.

“I’m so delighted to have scored a brace in the game and giving my team a lead. My gratitude goes to the coach who has had patience with me. We played as a team and the togetherness led us to this victory. We are yet to achieve more and fight for the badge as well,” Carlos said.

The coach, Mr Kirugi, was happy with his boys for the hardwork they had done and played accordingly. He felt that the team had registered the plan of the game as they had practiced.

“My boys never failed me at all. They have always shown me a reason to smile with even though I had to sweat for the first minutes since they were tensed. After Carlos silenced them with the first goal, I now started getting back into myself because that was the time I knew things would work out. It wasn’t an easy task but we managed to beat the Giants and I’m sure we should now be crowned as winners,” Mr Kirugi narrated.

The referee was free and fair and the game ended without any injuries from both teams. The beef still remains between the teams and it’s yet to be settled in their return match.
