Detective David Mayaka’s Murder Suspect Killed in Confrontation

Share

A member of the group responsible for the murder of Detective David Mayaka in Kayole two weeks ago was fatally shot by detectives today. The suspect, identified as John Kamau, also known as Farouk, was confronted by law enforcement officers.

Instead of surrendering, he fired at the officers, prompting them to retaliate swiftly and fatally. The suspect had the CZ pistol that was used to kill Detective Mayaka and had recently shot at one officer before being neutralized by the elite Crime Research & Intelligence Bureau team.

The operation recovered the CZ pistol, along with stolen phones. Ballistic experts tied the weapon to multiple robberies in Nairobi and Kiambu over the past year.

The firearm had been stolen from a former Cabinet Secretary’s aide during a violent robbery in Ngong in 2021. Another suspect was arrested earlier, while a third suspect, Henry Njihia, remains at large.

Detective Mayaka and his wife were ambushed by the gang while changing a tire, an incident captured by nearby CCTV cameras. The injured officer is recovering in a stable condition.
