In a gripping showdown that unfolded in Kigumo, Murang’a County, today, the echoes of gunfire and the primal calls of hyenas filled the air as law enforcement officers confronted a notorious gang of armed robbers. The fierce firefight resulted in the demise of two criminals, the retrieval of stolen firearms, and the recovery of Sh1.13 million stolen from the Unaitas SACCO Mununga branch.

The brazen criminals had orchestrated a daring heist at the Unaitas SACCO Mununga branch in Kigumo town. During the robbery, they disarmed a police officer, seizing his G3 rifle and making off with an undisclosed sum of money. This incident marked yet another chapter in the criminal saga of a gang that had been on the police’s radar.

Just a few days prior, on February 25, this audacious group had wrestled an AK-47 rifle loaded with 14 rounds of ammunition from a patrolling police officer in the Muthithi area. This ill-gotten weapon was later employed in the Unaitas SACCO robbery.

In response to the escalating threat posed by this gang, a joint operation was launched. Officers from Murang’a County joined forces with an elite team from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau to tackle the menace head-on. Their mission led them to Kinyona Forest, the criminal’s hideout.

Upon encountering the gang members, a fierce and intense firefight ensued. The forest, once teeming with life, fell eerily silent as bullets flew with astonishing precision. The officers’ well-coordinated response proved decisive, resulting in the immediate demise of two of the criminals.

In the aftermath of the firefight, law enforcement triumphantly recovered not only the stolen firearms but also a bag containing the ill-gotten Sh1.13 million. The fallen thugs were transported to Murang’a Level V Hospital mortuary, pending identification.

With two members of this notorious gang eliminated, a relentless manhunt has been initiated to apprehend the remaining suspects. This dramatic confrontation stands as a testament to the dedication and bravery of law enforcement officers in their tireless efforts to combat crime and protect the safety of the community.
