Gor Mahia, on the other hand, battled with KCB but ended up in a 1-1 draw at the Nyayo National Stadium, while Tusker and FC Talanta fought to a nil-nil draw at Ruaraka Grounds.
Apollo scored for the Bankers, while Rogers Mugisha equalized the goal for Gor Mahia.
K’Ogalo maintained their unbeaten status at second place on the chart with nine points, four less than Posta Rangers, who are on the top of the chart with thirteen points.
Kakamega Homeboyz, who were playing away, beat Bandari FC 1-0 at Mbaraki Sports Club in Mombasa.
Owing to the huge following that Leopards and Shabana enjoy, all roads lead to Ulinzi Sports Complex in what was the first meeting between the two community clubs in over a decade.
The stadium was full to the brim even before the match had started, with the Shabana side being the noisiest.
Sports CS Ababu Namwamba and Kisii governor Simba Arati were among the leaders who graced the occasion.
Scorers and Standings
Forward Brian Yakhama scored the first goal in the 12th minute into the game but later Shabana’s Peter Ongechi equalized the goal in the 21st minute.
“The boys pushed themselves, and today we have not conceded in the last stages of the match. I would be happier if we took all the points, so it is still a long way, and we will continue working so that we win,” said Shabana coach Sammy Okoth.
On the other hand, Leopards assistant coach Fred Ambani expressed his disappointment in the team, saying that it’s a learning process for them and that they need to work hard to widen the gap.
Meanwhile, AFC Leopards are expected to face Gor Mahia in the famous ‘Mashemeji Derby’ on 6 October at the Nyayo National Stadium.
