Ministry of Transport Officer Richard Zenda Kirui Bongei Charged With Forging Letter in CS Murkomen’s Name

A Ministry of Transport officer has been charged with forging and uttering a false document allegedly authored in the name of Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen.

Richard Zenda Kirui Bongei appeared before Milimani Chief Magistrate Dolphina Alego where he denied four counts, including forgery, uttering a false document, and conspiracy to commit a felony.

According to the charge sheet, Bongei is accused of forging a letter referenced 2010002101/35, dated May 6, 2024, and addressed to the Chairman of the Public Service Commission (PSC). The document purported to renew certain Local Agreement Terms and allegedly bore the CS’s name and signature.

The prosecution told the court that Bongei knowingly presented the forged document on July 15, 2024, with the intent to deceive the PSC into believing it was an official communication from the Cabinet Secretary.

Bongei, however, denied any wrongdoing, claiming that although the letter originated from his phone, he was not the one who sent it.

He alleged that another person, who is yet to be traced, may have accessed his device and transmitted the document.

He was released on a Sh 300,000 bond or an alternative cash bail of Sh150,000.

The court directed that the matter be mentioned at a later date as investigations continue.
