Six suspects, including serving and former Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) personnel, have been detained at Capitol Hill Police Station in Nairobi for 10 days as investigations into an alleged planned robbery continue.
The six, Charles Kiio Matata, David Ng’aa Mwangani, Samuel Agango Odoyo, Alex Mumo Kisilu, Richard Mwania Muasya, and Stella Nzuki Mweni were arrested in Kitengela following what investigators describe as a coordinated operation targeting a senior military officer.
According to court documents, the suspects were apprehended near the residence of Major General George Okumu, a senior KDF officer, after authorities acted on intelligence indicating a planned robbery.
The Police, through Chief Inspector Muthui and Inspector General of Police Karanja told the court that the arrest followed a week long surveillance operation into what is believed to be a criminal network involving both military personnel and civilian accomplices.
At the time of arrest, the suspects were found in two vehicles, a Toyota Harrier and a Toyota Ractis where officers recovered a range of items including military uniforms, boots, tools, and multiple mobile phones.
The Investigators believe the items may have been intended for use in the planned operation, though the exact motive is still under investigation.
Preliminary findings further indicate that some of the suspects have links to the military, with one identified as a serving officer based at Kahawa Garrison, another as a civilian employee at Kahawa Barracks, and a third as an interdicted officer.
Authorities also raised concerns over a suspected firearm believed to be in the possession of some of the suspects, prompting plans for further searches.
The prosecution argued that the case is complex and requires more time, citing the need for multi-agency investigations, verification of military records, and the pursuit of additional suspects still at large.
The court allowed the application, granting investigators 10 days to complete inquiries before making a decision on possible charges.
The six have been remanded at Capitol Hill Police Station.
The matter is to be mentioned on 7th April 2026.
