In Umoja 1 Ward, a new wave of leadership is beginning to take root. Delix Omanji, popularly known to residents as Mc Delix, is not just another name on a campaign poster.
He is a man who has walked the streets of Umoja for 17 years, witnessing its evolution from a structured residential estate to the bustling, yet challenged, urban hub it is today.
We sat down for an exclusive interview with the aspirant MCA and CEO of Delwire Agency to discuss his “open-minded” approach to governance and his plans to fix the systemic issues plaguing his home turf.
“You cannot fix what you don’t feel,” Delix says, leaning back with a calm but focused demeanour. Having lived in Umoja 1 since 2009, he has experienced the same dry taps, the same sewer bursts during the rainy seasons, and the same frustration of the youth looking for opportunities.
Delix argues that his long residency gives him a “granular understanding” of the ward’s problems, from the ageing infrastructure that struggles to support high-rise apartments to the lack of safe social spaces for the community.
The Delwire Connection – Bridging the Employment Gap
Beyond politics, Delix is a seasoned entrepreneur. As the director of Delwire Agency, he has built a reputation for connecting Kenyans with job opportunities both locally and internationally.
“Through Delwire Agency, I’ve seen the potential of our youth. But I’ve also seen the barriers. My goal is to take that same energy of connection and business acumen to the County Assembly. We need to create a bridge between the talent in Umoja 1 and the global market.”
His agency has become a lifeline for many, focusing on transparent job placements and a business consultancy, a model he hopes to scale through legislative policy to empower “hustlers” in Embakasi West.
The “Open-Minded” Manifesto
When asked what makes his bid different, Mc Delix emphasises his “open-minded” philosophy. He believes that traditional politics has failed because it is rigid and disconnected from the digital age.
Infrastructure & Sanitation: Delix plans to push for the completion and expansion of projects like the Umoja Sewerage System to ensure every household is connected to a modern grid.
Youth & Digital Economy: Leveraging his background, he aims to establish “Innovation Hubs” within the ward to provide high-speed internet and vocational training.
Accountability: “The role of an MCA is oversight. I will ensure that the KSh 2 billion allocated for Eastlands’ roads actually reaches the tarmac in Umoja 1,” he asserts.
The Verdict
As the political temperature in Nairobi rises, Mc Delix stands out as a candidate who blends “street smarts” with corporate experience. Whether he is organising community events or managing international placements at Delwire Agency, his message remains the same: Umoja 1 deserves a representative who is as modern and resilient as its people.
“I am ready to make changes,” he concludes. “Not just for the next election, but for the next generation of Umoja residents.”
