New revelations have emerged into the mysterious killing of Nairobi Hospital Acting Finance Director Eric Maigo who was stabbed to death nearly two weeks ago.
Sources privy to the investigations revealed that the suspect believed to be a minor now claims she stabbed Maigo in self-defense, and that she was a victim of rape.
She reportedly told the detectives that Maigo picked her up from the roadside as she had been chased from her house due to a misunderstanding with her guardian.
The 16-year-old suspect was on Wednesday before Magistrate Zainabu Abdul at the Milimani Law Courts on a miscellanous application filed by Corporal Patrick Boge who indicated that police needed to conduct mental an age assessments on the suspect as required before one faces murder charges.
The Court granted the application allowing detectives to detain the accused for the next 21 days of pending investigations.
The suspect will undergo both age and mental assessment over the said period before standing trial.
The DCI is also seeking to establish whether she acted alone or under instructions.
The girl was arrested Tuesday night after a Kenyan who called the Fichua line of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, giving credible intelligence that led to the suspect’s arrest.
Maigo’s body was on the 15th of September discovered in a pool of blood in his bedroom, bearing 25 stab wounds. Two kitchen knives preserved as evidence were recovered from the scene.
The police also need time to forward the case file to the ODPP for perusal and advice and not limited to the respondent’s production before a court of law for further orders.
The case will be mentioned on October 18.
