Breast cancer is a disease in which abnormal breast cells grow out of control and form tumors. These tumors can be very fatal if left untreated. October is the breast cancer awareness month whereby the whole month is dedicated to raise awareness about this disastrous illness.
According to the World Health

Organization (WHO), breast cancer is the most common and deadliest disease among women worldwide. There were 2.3 million women diagnosed with breast cancer with 685,000 deaths globally in the year 2020.

There are several risk factors associated with breast cancer including; increasing age, obesity, misuse of alcohol, family history of breast cancer, reproductive history, among others factors.

However, one can look out for the signs and symptoms of breast cancer such as breast lumps, change in size, shape and appearance of the breast, redness of the nipple and an abnormal fluid from the nipple.

Prevention Methods.

Screening is the use of technology such as a mammogram to detect whether one has cancer cells. Mammogram is an X-ray for breasts, it is detects early stages of breast cancer when it is easy to treat and before it is big enough to feel or cause symptoms.

Regular cancer screens and tests can help prevent cancer from advancing and spreading to the rest of the body.
2. Self Examination for Breast Awareness.
Women who are at a larger risk of getting cancer are encouraged self examine themselves.

These examinations helps to check the size of the breast whether it is enlarged. Also, the cross checks help to determine the physical appearance of the nipple and whether it is reddish or has some abnormal and blood-like fluid coming out from the nipples.

3. Avoid misuse of drugs.
Drugs such as alcohol and tobacco cause cancer. For one to prevent cancer-causing factors , limit the intake of such drugs or rather do away with them completely.

4. Exercise Regularly.
Keeping your body cells active can prevent cancer. Exercise at least 30 minutes a day to keep fit . Maintaining a healthy weight and a healthy diet are also ways of preventing cancer. If possible, avoid junk and fast foods which contain a lot of calories.

Additionally, cancer is treatable in several ways which include surgery to remove the breast tumor. Radiation therapy is also a way of treating cancer whereby it reduces recurrence risk in the breast and surrounding tissues.

Lastly, there are medications and chemotherapy to kill cancer cells and prevent them from spreading.
