The multi-million shilling fraud case involving former OKI General Trading director Honey Khatwani has taken a new twist, as police now seek to arrest his wife, Poonam Khatwani, in connection with the theft of KSh 356 million from the company.
A warrant of arrest has been issued against Poonam, with police expected to apprehend her at any moment. She will be held at Parklands Police Station before being presented in court on Monday for plea taking. The development marks a major escalation in the probe, signaling that investigators are widening their net to include those suspected of aiding in the alleged serial fraud.
According to sources familiar with the investigation, Poonam Khatwani is believed to have played a role in the elaborate financial scheme orchestrated by her husband. Her imminent arrest points to a broader conspiracy and raises serious questions about who else might have been involved in siphoning off the company’s funds.
Honey Khatwani, who was charged in June 2025 at the Milimani Law Courts, is accused of stealing USD 2.78 million (equivalent to Sh356 million) from OKI General Trading between January 2020 and June 2024, during his tenure as a company director. Prosecutors allege he abused his position to facilitate the theft over a sustained period of more than four years.
Now, with his wife under investigation, the prosecution appears determined to expose the wider network behind the fraud.
Another individual on the police radar is Jayesh Soni, who has also been linked to the case and is expected to be arrested soon. Both Soni and Poonam Khatwani were previously listed as co-defendants alongside Honey, though specific details of their roles remain under wraps.
Poonam’s arraignment on Monday will be a critical moment in the high-profile case, as prosecutors lay out the charges and the court hears her plea.
