AC Milan and Newcastle United played out a goalless draw in their Champions League opener at the San Siro on Tuesday night. Both teams had chances to win the game, but neither side was able to find the back of the net.
The best chance of the first half fell to Milan’s Rafael Leao, who hit the post with a powerful shot from outside the box. Newcastle had a good chance in the second half when Allan Saint-Maximin raced through on goal, but his shot was saved by Milan goalkeeper Ciprian Tătărușanu.
The draw leaves both teams on one point after their first group game.
In the other early game of the evening, RB Leipzig thrashed Young Boys 3-1 at the Wankdorf Stadium. Leipzig took the lead in the 21st minute through a Christopher Nkunku penalty, and they doubled their advantage in the 35th minute through Timo Werner.
Young Boys pulled a goal back in the 58th minute through Meschack Elia, but Leipzig restored their two-goal lead in the 64th minute through Emil Forsberg.
The win puts Leipzig top of Group F after the first round of matches.
