A Nairobi businessman has been charged with defrauding a woman of Sh2.3 million in a fake water filtration deal.

Yasser Abdelwahab Mohammed appeared before Milimani Chief Magistrate Lukas Onyina, where he denied the charges.

According to the prosecution, between March 1 and November 30, 2024, Yasser allegedly obtained Sh2.3 million from Nasra Ibrahim Roble by falsely claiming he was in a position to import and install a water filtration machine at her farm.

The court heard that Yasser had no such capacity and acted with intent to defraud.

The court released him on a cash bail of Sh 200,000.

He was also ordered to deposit his passport in court pending the hearing and determination of the matter.

The matter is to be mentioned on 15th October.
