An activist popularly known as “Mr Speaker Sir” has been arraigned in court over allegations of unlawfully accessing the precincts of Parliament during the June 2024 anti-Finance Bill protests.
Ezekiel Kyama Nzyoki appeared before Milimani Principal Magistrate Caroline Mugo, where he denied the charges.
The prosecution alleges that on June 25, 2024, at Parliament Buildings in Nairobi, Nzyoki unlawfully accessed the precincts of Parliament without lawful authority, contrary to Section 5 of the Parliamentary Powers and Privileges Act.
He is further charged with malicious damage to property, including building works, the perimeter fence, the mausoleum flag post, furniture, ICT equipment, television screens, kitchenware, motor vehicles and electrical installations belonging to the Parliamentary Service Commission.
According to the charge sheet, the damaged property is valued at Sh41,248,570.
The court heard that Nzyoki allegedly committed the offences on June 25, 2024, jointly with others who were not before the court.
He was released on a bond of Sh200,000 or an alternative cash bail of Sh100,000.
The case will be mentioned on July 13, 2026.
